About Us

Stella Tobias is a qualified physiotherapist.  She studied at the University of Witwatersrand and completed her first degree in Bachelor of Science, majoring in Microbiology and Biochemistry. Toward the end of her second year, Stella could tell that working in laboratories was not her passion since she enjoys working with people. After completing her BSc in December 1999, she enrolled in physiotherapy at the same university and completed her studies in December 2001.

Stella worked as a physiotherapist for various mining hospitals between 2002 and 2009, where she gained much experience in the physiotherapy management of musculoskeletal, chest, and neurological conditions prevalent in the mining industry.

In September 2009 she joined a multidisciplinary private practice where her skills in holistic approach and management of patients became significantly sharpened.

In October 2019 she moved on and opened her own practice, named it “Masechaba Physiotherapist”. Masechaba is Stella’s Sesotho Nickname, translated it simply means “Mother of Nations”

Stella's more than 20 years of experience in physiotherapy and her natural ability to seek and maintain healthy relationships with colleagues from different disciplines enable her to become a great team player. In addition, her highest value of “The worth of an individual” inspires her to render the best service to people across various racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Pre & Post-Operative

Pre-Post-Op.png

A pre-and post-operative physiotherapy program is an exercise-based program custom designed by a physiotherapist for patients who plan to have major surgery. You will be consulted by the physiotherapist to assess your condition or injury and a treatment plan will be worked out for you.

You may also require pre-operative education, mobilization, and chest physiotherapy to clear the lungs before your surgery, and will be seen again post-operatively by the physiotherapist.

Orthopaedic

Orthopaedic physiotherapy is an area of physiotherapy that is focused on the treatment and management of conditions related to the musculoskeletal system.  The Physiotherapist will see you pre- and post operatively if you are scheduled for a hip, knee or shoulder replacement as well as other related surgeries or procedures. The exercises your physiotherapist gives you are an important part of your recovery. It's essential you continue with them once you're at home.

Neuro

Neurological physiotherapy involves the treatment of people with movement and function disorders that have originated from problems within the body's nervous and neuromuscular system. Neurological rehab programs may include help with activities of daily living, such as eating, dressing, bathing, toileting, handwriting, cooking, and basic housekeeping. Speech therapy to help with speaking, reading, writing, or swallowing. Stress, anxiety, and depression management.

Chest

Chest physiotherapy is an airway clearance technique to drain the lungs, and may include percussion (clapping), vibration, deep breathing, and huffing or coughing. Chest physiotherapy is often a treatment option for many respiratory conditions, such as bronchiectasis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). A recent study also showed Chest Physio as a successful approach in COVID-19 to help reduce or prevent the need for artificial ventilator treatment.

Gynaecological

A hysterectomy is an operation to remove the uterus and sometimes other reproductive organs such as the cervix, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. Physiotherapy before and after your operation is recommended to help you return to your normal daily routine as soon as possible. The physiotherapist will teach you important exercises in-hospital and provide information for continued exercises once you are discharged into the home environment.
